What is SPIN 2030

SPIN 2030 is a program that supports universities and research institutions in Saxony that strive to make new scientific breakthroughs that will change the world.
Science is curiosity in motion, is passion that wants to be nourished. We in Saxony know this. Inventions such as European hard porcelain or the 35mm camera have long been anchored in the collective Saxon memory. The wheel of research continues to turn at a breathtaking pace: scientists from Saxony are involved in international competition to find answers to humanity's pressing questions about the future. Saxony has developed into an outstanding scientific location: important findings in fields such as materials research, cancer research and microelectronics have their origins in Saxon institutions. Universities and non-university research institutes are closely networked and attractive to top researchers from all over the world. With SPIN2030 we make Saxony, a state of science, a real experience!

Investments

The Free State is investing an above-average amount in its research and higher education landscape. By 2030, at least 17 billion euros will be invested in science in order to secure and expand Saxony's leading position in research in the long term.
The double budget for 2023/24 sets a clear priority on science, universities and research. Investments will be made in universities, research facilities, university medicine and university hospitals, as well as modernization and construction.
Saxony is thus investing a total of more than 4 billion euros in science by 2025. But we are not only thinking about tomorrow, but far beyond. At least 17 billion euros will be invested in our science landscape by 2030. These have always been the largest investments in Saxon science. In this way, Saxony's top position in research can be secured and expanded in the long term. The state government is thus setting a clear priority on science, universities and research.

Launch event SPIN 2030

In a brilliant launch event, Minister President Michael Kretschmer and Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow gave the starting signal for the campaign "SPIN2030.Wissenschaftsland Sachsen" on February 3, 2023. Numerous representatives of Saxony's science community, as well as many interested parties from companies, administration and the general public, followed the invitation to the Congress Hall at the Zoo in Leipzig. The starting point of the campaign is an agenda that summarizes the science policy goals and priorities until 2030.
