I first came to Dresden on a student exchange during my bachelor's degree and I liked the city so much that it was easy for me to come back for my PhD. I think Dresden is great for balancing work and home life because you're never far from something fun. I can enjoy the history and culture of the city at the Semper Opera House or the Zwinger, or I can go to Neustadt to shop and socialize in a more urban environment. At the same time, I can experience the urban greenery of the Elbe on my doorstep, or if I need a change of scenery, the Heath and Saxon Switzerland are not far away. If I want to get my heart rate up, I can cycle along the Elbe to the mountains of Saxon Switzerland. I'm not the only one who likes Dresden, my dog is also a big fan of the Elbe and can hardly imagine our daily walks anywhere else.
